Background of the Study
Digital storytelling has emerged as a transformative medium for urban youth in Nigeria, reshaping discourse practices in Nigerian English. Through platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, and blogs, young people craft personal narratives that blend multimedia elements with traditional storytelling techniques. This form of narrative expression not only reflects the creativity and dynamism of urban culture but also challenges conventional language norms (Adetola, 2023). Digital storytelling fosters interactive discourse by enabling real-time feedback and community participation, thus democratizing narrative production. The integration of visual, auditory, and textual components enriches the narrative experience, enhancing both engagement and comprehension. Studies indicate that digital storytelling promotes linguistic innovation and reinforces cultural identity among urban youth, who use it as a tool for self-expression and social commentary (Okeke, 2024). This study examines how digital storytelling practices impact discourse in Nigerian English, exploring the intersection of technology, language evolution, and cultural expression among the urban youth demographic (Adetola, 2023).
Statement of the Problem
Despite the popularity of digital storytelling, there is limited research on its specific impact on discourse practices in Nigerian English among urban youth. Existing studies tend to focus on the technological aspects rather than how storytelling influences language use and social interaction (Okeke, 2024). This gap restricts understanding of how digital narratives shape communication patterns and contribute to linguistic innovation. Additionally, rapid technological changes may further complicate these discourse practices. This study addresses these deficiencies by investigating the effects of digital storytelling on the evolution of discourse practices in urban Nigerian English, with an emphasis on engagement, linguistic creativity, and cultural transmission.

Significance of the Study

The findings will aid educators, media practitioners, and cultural policymakers in understanding modern narrative dynamics and enhancing communication strategies (Adetola, 2023; Okeke, 2024).
Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study is limited to digital storytelling practices among urban youth in Nigeria and does not extend to rural narratives or non-digital forms of storytelling.
